The Micro Screw kit is a user and patient driven system redesign to improve outcomes whilst responding to the problems expressed by orthopedic surgeons in trauma management. The kit consists of a world first set 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm diameter cannulated compression screws with an innovative range of instrumentation.

  • The treatment of small fractures is difficult due to the size of the bone fragments and the challenges of accurately maintaining the fracture reduction whilst fixation occurs. Current devices are non specific and uninspired mimicking what is seen in industrial applications, these problems put the challenge of achieving this micro precision on the surgeon and push to the limits of dexterity at the patients' expense. This project exists to meet the surgical shortcomings of small bone fragment fixation, through the use of micro cannulated screws accompanied by novel surgical equipment to aid in precision and provide strong stable fixation.

  • Redesigning the small orthopaedic screw and the user experience of small fragment fixation Field Orthopaedics has established the FO Micro Screw to address the size and accuracy limitations of current technology. The FO Micro screw has been designed to introduce cannulated precision to small screws, whilst having lagging geometric features to provide the necessary compression in fractures to generate rapid healing. Together with its specialised insertion instrumentation, the FO Micro screw enables high precision and accuracy during the fixation of small fragment fixations, allowing simple and efficient surgeries with increased patient outcomes.

  • Field Orthopaedics and the Micro Screw System was formed to bring back innovation to medicine and to realise products that address under-serviced markets and to realise solutions to problems impacting patient care and outcomes. The company was created from within the medical community, when the founders decided to take action and form a significant collaboration with surgeons and physicians asking them what their hurt points were and working alongside them to create answers. It exists to impact the current medical industry and increase the social collaboration in the field.

  • The Field Orthopaedics (FO) Micro Screw System consists of the following components and features: - 1.5 mm (1.5) and 2.0 mm (2.0) diameter cannulated compression screws made of Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy (ASTM F136) with lengths ranging from 6 mm to 16 mm in 1 mm increments - The screws are partially threaded on the distal third of the screw, providing for compressive advantage over standard screws by utilizing the lag technique. - The screws each feature a 0.65 mm cannulation to allow for precise and accurate guided insertion over a 0.6 mm k-wire. - The 1.5 and 2.0 Micro Screws feature a 1.5 size hexagonal screwdriver interface for insertion. - K-wires made from 316 LVM stainless steel alloy (ASTM F138) with 0.6, 0.8, 1.0. 1.2, 1.6 - 2.0mm double trocar K-wires with length options of 70 and 150mm. Associated surgical procedure instruments: - Fractal Grip Quick Connect Hand Driver - Screw Depth Gauge - Soft Tissue Protector - Cleaning Stylet - Autoclave transport and surgical display tray and case. NOTE: K-wire kit shown in background of associated images is an accessory instrumentation kit.
