The Britax Tourer Booster Seat for cars is suitable for children from approximately 4 years of age up to approximately 7 years of age as determined by the child’s shoulder height and the lower and upper shoulder height markers on the seat cover. Tourer is light weight and has no need for the use of a top tether strap. The seat is also fitted with Slideguard lap belt positioning device and a sash guide to position the seatbelt sash belt.

  • The seat has been designed to minimize the weight of the moulding to achieve a total weight of less than 2 kg. AS/NZS 1754:2013 requires booster seats over 2 kg require a tether strap. Not all seating positions in cars have a tether strap anchorage point thus there is a need for booster seats without top tether straps. In addition, light weight booster seats can be moved easily between vehicles. The objective of design of the moulding was to have a smooth outside surface so as to remove any potential witness marks on the vehicle seat trim or foam padding. The Britax designers have sought a stylish design that will be accepted by children.

  • The Tourer is fitted with a patented Slideguard lap belt positioning clip which is used hook over the lap belt to prevent the lap belt rising up on to the abdomen or the child sliding under the lap belt in a crash. A lap belt positioned on the abdomen in a crash can be deadly. The cover is fitted with a sash belt guide to control the position of the sash belt diagonally across the child's chest. Typically the sash belt should be positioned away from the child's neck but not away from the point of the shoulder. A single sash guide can be positioned on either the left or right hand side depending on the seatbelt configuration.

  • The Tourer booster seat is fitted with an impact absorbing seat base that absorbs and disperses the downward forces that can be experienced in frontal crashes whilst maintaining the light weight properties of the seat. EPS foam is used support the occupant and to absorb part of the crash energy. This allows the base of the moulding to present a smooth surface to the vehicle seat. The side wings on the headrest part of the seat moulding are fitted with additional EPS foam which will absorb energy in a side impact crash. This meets the requirements of the child restraint Standard.

  • In rear crashes the head can exert a significant force on the headrest causing the headrest part to deflect backwards. The joint Australian & New Zealand Standard for child restraints controls the amount of defection that is permissible. Just a plastic connection was either not strong enough with thin plastic section or thick plastic ribs would be required which could cause weight or moulding issues.. The Tourer uses high tensile aluminum tubing to strengthen the “neck” of the booster seat in order to meet the Standard.

    The Tourer booster seat is also suitable for use with an accessory child harness - Britax Protecta Plus child harness. This harness provides support for the child's upper torso and provides a more positive restraint of the child. Seat belts by themselves can be easily repositioned by the child putting the child at risk in a crash. The moulding has a pair of slots near the neck region for the child harness to pass through.

    The product will allow a parent to meet the Road Rules by allowing their child to be correctly restrained up to 7 years of age by using the booster seat from approximately 4 years of age. The Tourer complies with the Australian & NZ Child Restraint Standard AS/NZS1754:2013 as a Type E booster seat and is certified by SAI-Global product certification scheme (5 tickmark).
